Reflecting on a Fantastic Start to the School Year at Marylhurst

(Photos at bottom of the post) As we dive into the new school year, we want to reflect on the wonderful events that set the stage for an incredible beginning. From engaging faculty retreats to hands-on campus improvements, our community has come together to make this year’s start special.

Faculty Staff Retreat: Our journey began with a deeply meaningful faculty and staff retreat. We delved into the rich history of Marylhurst, exploring our community’s roots and the culture that defines us. This retreat was not just about revisiting our mission but also about reconnecting with what makes Marylhurst unique. We left inspired and excited, ready to bring renewed energy and passion into the classroom.

Campus Work Party: Next up was our bustling campus work party, where over 50 dedicated volunteers rolled up their sleeves to give our school a fresh look. Their hard work was evident in every corner, from weeding the grounds and washing windows to painting bathrooms and assembling furniture. This collective effort has transformed our school into a more inviting and welcoming space for our students, reflecting the care and commitment of our community.

New Family Orientation: Welcoming our 35 new families was another highlight. During the New Family Orientation, we provided crucial information about our school, ensuring our new families felt informed and prepared. This event helped to forge strong connections and set the stage for a smooth transition into our school community.

Ice Cream Social: The excitement continued with our annual Ice Cream Social. It was heartwarming to see Marylhurst families come together to meet teachers, share stories from their summer adventures, and enjoy delicious ice cream. This casual and joyful gathering was a perfect way to kick off the school year and foster a sense of community.

Classroom Preview Day: Finally, our Hummingbirds and Owls (Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten) had their own special day. During the Classroom Preview, our youngest students explored their new classrooms, learned where to place their belongings, and met their teachers. This early introduction helped ease first-day jitters and set a positive tone for their learning journey.

All these events played a vital role in preparing us for the new school year, creating a sense of excitement and readiness among our students, families, and staff.
