Honoring our Poets & Artists

We are thrilled to share some exciting news about our students' recent achievements! In our last Weekly Update, we shared the news about several of our young poets being recognized in two different anthologies. Early this week, we received further news that even more of our young poets have been honored for their writing!

Firstly, we are proud to announce that 18 of our students were featured in the Honoring Our Rivers Anthology for their exceptional art and poetry. This annual compilation, which aims to promote respect for Oregon's watersheds, showcases the creative talents of young minds reflecting on the beauty and fragility of our natural world. Congratulations to Blue Browning, Finn Branche, Alexandra Howe, Farren Hackett, Aster Wildwood, Davis Yates, Scarlett Partridge, Ashlynn Almeida, Oli Fidanzo, Josie Martino, Jack Batten, Claire Reaser, Andrew Laidlaw, Estella Getlin, Pilar Heros, Remy Ford, Lyra Getlin, and Milo Ford for your inspiring contributions!

Additionally, we are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our students and alumni in the 2024 Cascadia Youth Poetry Contest, announced by the Oregon Poetry Association. Out of 178 entries, 30 winners were selected, and we are proud to have 8 of them from The Marylhurst School. Congratulations to Kai Bixby for "Sickness," Milo Ford for "Morning," Molly Grubbs for "Possibility," Baily Hostetler for "Wind," Claire Hunsberger for "The Prickly Pear," Kameron Taylor for "My Pencil," Fox Tindall for "The Beaver," and Alistair Wood for "The Presence." Your poems beautifully capture a range of emotions and insights, showcasing the power of poetry as a means of self-expression and social consciousness.
