Celebrating Elizabeth Kortenhof: Honoring 20 Years of Dedication at Marylhurst

It is with immense gratitude and a touch of sadness that we share the news that Elizabeth Kortenhof, our remarkable Pre-K teacher, will be retiring at the end of this school year after 20 years of dedicated service to The Marylhurst School.

Elizabeth has been a force of creativity and inspiration, opening up a world of learning for countless children. Her projects have been magical. Whether guiding students in building a pirate ship, transforming the classroom into a lush jungle, or creating new fantastical monsters, Elizabeth brings learning to life—always energized by the curiosity and questions of the children in her care. Her impact on both students and colleagues will be felt for years to come.

One of her most treasured traditions has been sewing pajamas with the children each winter. Sitting with them at the sewing machine, guiding them through the process of making something with their own hands, is a true example of her belief that young children are capable of real, meaningful work.

Elizabeth’s influence extends beyond her classroom walls. Her dedication to fostering curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning has been a cornerstone of our school. She embodies what Marylhurst stands for, and her legacy will remain woven into the fabric of our community.

In the months ahead, we will be celebrating Elizabeth and all she has contributed to our school. We encourage you to share your memories, gratitude, and well wishes as we honor the impact she has made. As we do this, we will also be launching a search for the next Owls lead teacher, posting the job description on our website, through social media and professional organizations, and will keep you updated as that process unfolds.

Elizabeth, your creativity, passion, and care have made Marylhurst a better place. You will be deeply missed, and you will always hold a special place in our hearts. We look forward to celebrating you and the incredible work you have done as we journey through these remaining months together.
