Celebrating Young Poets: Honoring Their Achievements
We are thrilled to share that a group of our young poets has recently received prestigious recognition for their poetry. Alistair Wood, a 2024 graduate, was honored in the 2024 Cascadia Anthology for his evocative poem The Presence.
Here is Alistair's poem, The Presence:
The Presence
By Alistair Wood
The fresh grass blades flicked their tails
as the wind whipped across them.
The stream trickled and meandered
through the mountainside
as the red dust blew over its corpse.
All the well-being of the forest
felt a presence,
a lurking
almost like a sixth sense.
As if the spindly tree branches
were holding secrets in the air.
Watching for years,
observing,
but not telling.
In addition to Alistair’s achievement, several of our young poets were celebrated in the 2024 Honoring Our Rivers Anthology. Among them are 2024 graduate Milo Ford, 6th graders Ashlyyn Almeida, Blue Browning, Davis Yates, Claire Reaser, and Remy Ford. Current 5th graders—Alexandra Howe, Josie Martino, Jack Batten, Estella Getlin, Pilar Heros, and Scarlett Partridge—were also published.
Our youngest poets, including 2nd graders Fox Tindall and Andrew Laidlaw, as well as Aster Wildwood, a kindergartner, were recognized for writing as well. Lyra Getlin, a 3rd grader, was also published.
For those interested in exploring the works of these young poets, their poems are available to read in the 2024 Honoring Our Rivers Anthology at this link.
This collection of honors highlights the vibrant literary culture within our school, where young poets from various grade levels are encouraged to express themselves through the power of the written word.
