Exploring History and Innovation: A Successful Middle School Field Trip

Our middle schoolers recently embarked on a fantastic field trip to downtown Portland on April 5th! We want to extend a huge thank you to our dedicated drivers, Dylan, Emily, Derek, Kristen, and Rebekah, who tackled the challenge of parking and navigating busy streets with a group of enthusiastic students.

The first stop of the day was the Oregon Historical Society, where students had the opportunity to delve into Oregon's rich history through diverse perspectives. The exhibits explored both the state's challenging past, including difficult truths, and its role as a pioneer in national movements for positive change. This exploration sparked several thought-provoking conversations and provided a deeper understanding of Oregon's unique story.

Next, the students visited the Portland Art Museum's "Throughlines" exhibit. This captivating display encourages wonder and curiosity, showcasing a variety of artistic movements and expression. The students were actively engaged, asking insightful questions and delving into the question "What is art?".

Congratulations to our budding scientists!

We are incredibly proud of Alistair, Milo, Josie, Cooper, and Molly, our dedicated participants in The Northwest Science Expo. Their hard work and dedication as scientists truly shine. It was thrilling to see them showcase their projects alongside hundreds of other middle and high school students from across the state at the Viking Pavilion. A special shoutout to our Marylhurst students who received awards in this prestigious state-wide competition:

  • Honorable Mention, Engineering: Alistair and Milo

  • Honorable Mention, Medicine and Health Sciences: Josie

Congratulations on a successful field trip and to our award-winning scientists!
