Celebrating Harvest Fest: A Day of Fun and Learning at Our School
Last Thursday, our school came alive with the vibrant energy of Harvest Fest, an event directed by our students, providing them with the chance to plan, design, and lead the experience.
The festival started with the whole school gathering together in song. A group of students, across grades, led us in the Marylhurst Song and several school classics. We then carried that feeling of joy into the rest of the event.
One of the standout activities was apple pressing, where students of all ages worked tirelessly to produce fresh apple cider for the whole school to share. Their teamwork and perseverance showcased the practical skills and collaboration we strive to nurture in our students.
Throughout the festival, a variety of student-created games kept everyone entertained. Students enjoyed ghostly bowling, tested their aim with pumpkin cornhole, and had a blast at our temporary tattoo and mask-making stations. The highlight for many was the obstacle course and the haunted laser maze, which added an element of adventure to the festivities.
Of course, no Harvest Fest would be complete without a haunted house, which was a hit with our brave students eager for a little spooky fun.
As the day wound down, we honored a cherished Marylhurst tradition: the rolling of the oatcake. We’re thrilled to report that the oatcake landed on “X,” which means we can anticipate a snowy winter ahead! The cheers of our students echoed across the campus.
To cap off our day of celebration, everyone gathered for a delicious meal of homemade vegetable soup and donuts, lovingly prepared by our middle school students. It was a perfect way to wrap up the day’s activities.
Harvest Fest was not just a fun day; it was a testament to the values of progressive education—student-centered learning, creativity, collaboration, and community. We’re so proud of our students for their vision and hard work!!
