Shadows

Shadows are like the dark side of the moon.

Every person,

animal, and thing has one.

But, why is it

that on the hard days,

everyone’s shadow seems bigger?

Shadows are like a shard

of night and darkness,

that intrudes on everyone’s

peace and happiness.

They always seem to be darker

during heartbreak.

Shadows are like ink.

One drop in the crystal clear water

and the whole thing

spreads like black wings.

Shadows always seem to have a darker stain

when someone is crying.

Shadows are like that feeling you have

in the pit of your stomach,

in the hospital waiting room.

Waiting.

And waiting,

And waiting.

For the news

Good or bad,

to know how

To feel the pain.
