In the spirit of The Marylhurst School’s mission of community development and family involvement, each family is asked to contribute a minimum of 10 volunteer hours (5 in the twos program) annually. Help from parents and families is essential to the operations of our school. Parent involvement enables the teachers to provide a high level of quality education and creates a sense of community for children, families and faculty that benefits us all.
There are many ways to support The Marylhurst School with your time and talents. There are opportunities that appeal to a wide variety of schedules and interests. There are also some jobs that can be done from home and out in the community for parents who are not able to complete their hours at the school. The volunteer coordinator regularly sends out emails with volunteer opportunities, including:
- Garden Work parties
- Fundraising events – Jog-a-thon, Scholastic Book Fair, Auction
- Help in the classroom
- Home Room Parent
- Mow the lawn
- Library assistant
- Open House ambassador
We realize that not every family will be able to or wish to fulfill the service requirement. Families may opt out of the service hour requirement at $20 per hour or $200.00 for the year. It is our hope though that all families become involved in some way as our school is strongest with many hands and voices.
